About

Club members meeting in 2019 before coronavirus restrictions

The Rotary Club of Billericay Mayflower runs several events in the town, most notable of which are the Summerfest Event, Soapbox Derby and the Billericay Christmas Market at the beginning of December.

Our President this year is Colin Campbell, who took over in July 2021. Please e-mail Ian Miller, the Club Secretary, for more information about the club. His e-mail address is secretary@mayflowerrotary.org

From the President

The disruption caused by Covid has affected many areas of our lives, and the activities of those who volunteer to support our community have not been an exception. The Rotary Club of Billericay Mayflower has done its best to continue with our programme, but a whole year of our major events was lost. The Club was not idle though, and last year’s President, Barry Howe and his team, continued to raise funds and support communities at home and abroad despite the restrictions.

This has included helping at a vaccine pop-up centre, supporting Abbeyfield Archer House, assisting the Street Pastors move the Billericay Food Bank, competing in a Boatathon to raise money and, of course, supporting Barry in his fundraising for Moldova. This is only a sample of what enterprising Mayflower Rotarians did whilst “nothing was happening”!

This year looks more promising for activities: SummerFest took place in August, kicking off the new Rotary year in the right way with events for the local community that also raise much needed funds for charities. The club, which has been meeting by video conference for the last year, has also started to meet in person giving us the opportunity for the fellowship that is the basis of Rotary life.

We know that Coronavirus has not gone away and whilst we are planning for events during this year we have learned to expect the unexpected. What I can promise, though, is that Billericay Mayflower will continue to be as active as possible – we proved this during the last Rotary year, and we’re not stopping now!

Colin Campbell

President, Rotary Club of Billericay Mayflower.
